Homestay visits

What is the International Visitors Homestay Program?

The International Visitors Program is a cultural interaction experience. Members of our global chapter network are given the opportunity to meet members from chapters in other countries, to experience their way of life. This is done through host chapter members that provide homestays for visitors, by inviting them into their homes for a period of three to five days. In return, the host families meet people from other countries. This helps to create a mutual understanding of each other’s culture. It is a great chance to visit local places of interest, to experience the local food and culture, and of course make new friends. There are two countries listed here and other destinations are possible.

Participant Requirements

Participants in the International Visitors Program must be members of a People to People International Chapter. All participants in the International Visitors Program must be at least 18 years old if travelling alone, 15 years old if travelling in a youth group, or 10 years old when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Persons under 10 years of age cannot participate in a homestay. A mature, responsible, adult leader who is at least 25 years old must accompany youth groups between the ages of 15 and 21. If there are more than 10 members in a youth group, there must be at least two adult leaders. We are working to develop a tool to allow European chapters a chance to offer and register for Homestays, within Europe, simply. Whilst we continue to ensure we find a simple solution, we ask you to register your request through the World HQ tool which you will find here.  You will need your PTPI ID and password for this – should you need assistance, please do contact us.

Encouraging Youth

“The world now has the largest generation of young people in history. I place great hope in their power to shape our future,” former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The needs of young people to be supported, allowed to be the best they can be, and their thirst to shape our world are an energy we adults must embrace. The youth see the world as one and wish to learn, live and find love, anywhere on the planet without barriers enforced by policies and regulations. Whilst there is some way to go before this might become a reality, we can support young people through brilliant experiences.

There are many PTPI student chapters doing great things around our region.  And there are chapters that work in partnership with Scouting and other local youth organizations. Find the way that works where you are, ask us for help and share your stories with us. We have a dream that our European Council team, known as the EEC, will be 100% Youth Lead by the end of 2021.

Together with our student travel program, homestay, conferences and grants, we are doing all that we can to ensure the young people that connect with PTPI, are exposed to amazing experiences.

Donate to our Youth Development Conference fund

You can help us offer an opportunity, for young people to attend our European Conferenceeach September. The “Youth Development Conference Fund“ will be used to offer scholarships for students so that they can attend the European Conference. The scholarships cover; participation fee, homestay and a contribution to international travel expenses.

Our project approach

People to People International has always believed in replacing cultural barriers with cultural understanding. We offer a variety of programs designed to increase chapters’ ability to carry out the mission of the organization in their communities. Contact your local chapter to learn about what they are doing.

SDGs and PTPI Europe – the long view

Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, more than 190 world leaders committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help us all end extreme poverty, fight inequality & injustice, and fix climate change. We each have a role to play if we’re going to achieve these goals of a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable world.

The 17 goals and the 169 targets contained within those goals are a fabulous roadmap to the future. These goals are being adopted by both the public and private sectors. They provide business and industry with a great platform to measure their sustainability, as well as their contribution to the planet and humanity.

For PTPI Europe, our ability to have a meaningful impact will happen when our chapters align their activities with SDGs. This means in reality that we have to take a long view during our thinking and planning. We plan to register in accordance with the UN SDG platform, the things we do, as a way of demonstrating our commitment to people, the plant and peace. This means that we must prove our commitment through concrete initiatives. The initiatives need to be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Resource-based, with Time-based deliverables.

Our Shop

We are building this online shop to allow our talented and active chapters, a method to sell items or services. These are just one of the ways that our student chapters develop funds.  Almost all of our social projects are funded by private citizens.  We are grateful for their continued trust and for supporting our efforts to improve the state of the world.

People to People International has always believed in replacing cultural barriers with cultural understanding. Why? Because this is one of the ways to convert rigidity of habit, into collaboration, offering a chance of peace through understanding. At PTPI, we create international connections for anyone who wants to experience the world and become a community problem solver.
